Moulin Rouge Style Bedroom

Inspired by the Hollywood film starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, the Moulin Rouge'bedroom features sumptuous fabrics, grand furniture and dramatic shades of red and gold.

		Wall colour Paint the walls in a deep red colour. Use hints of gold on picture or dado rails around the room and in the picture frames and furniture handles.
		Furniture Reupholster all you furniture in rich red embroidered fabric. Place bolster cushions on the sofa and hang throws over the backs of chairs. A chaise long makes a fantastic centrepiece for the room.
		Decorative artwork Create a special piece of Moulin Rouge artwork by painting a picture of a dancing girl in red, black and white. Frame the picture with small light bulbs and hang on the wall.
		Screen Construct frame using 2x1 timber battening. Cover the frame with Jali patterned fretwork and paint it cream. Paint the edges of the frame with gold paint to enhance the detail in the wood.
		Bed dressing Fit a dark wooden headboard onto your double bed. Cover the bed with luxurious fabrics and quilted throws. Place pink, cream, gold and red satin cushions at the head of the bed. Sprinkle red rose petals over the bed for the finishing touch.
		Lighting Fit a sparkling chandelier in the centre of the room. Place small tiffany style glass lights around the room. Finish with a dressing room mirror, surrounded with small light bulbs.
		Fabric Dress the window with rich red crush velvet drapes. Sew gold tassels along the edges of each drape. Use the same technique to cover the underside of a dressing table and sofa.
		Accessories Complete the luxurious design with rich red and pink satin cushions, large white and peacock feathers in a tall vase, lush green spiky houseplants, red roses, feather bowers and a large gold-framed mirror.
