Glam Guest Bedroom
After much deliberation and a way out of the budget wallpaper installation estimate, we have decided to focus on a guest room design as part of the New Year New Room Refresh Challenge.
Guest Room Design
The room itself is kind of small, so we're making a few changes to improve the flow and layout of the guest room design while keeping the queen mattress size. It is a mess right now.
And here's the guest room design vision board:
First, we will center the bed underneath the light fixture. Currently it is centered relative to the wall rather than the room itself.
Second, I want to incorporate a small black, gold and marble desk so Daniel has some room to work when he begins grad school this spring. The mirror that used to be in the foyer will be placed above the desk to help bounce some light around the room.
Guest Room Decor & Furniture
We have tile all throughout our home, so adding in a colorful, bold rug is something I definitely want to do. Home Dynamix has a ton of fun options, and it was hard to pick a rug. I chose to go girly with this gorgeous floral rug. This whole guest room design and decor scheme is BOLD.
I already alluded to the fact that the wallpaper labor estimate came in really high, AND she stated she'd need 18 rolls, which would also cost a small fortune. Instead, I may DIY an accent wall only on the wall where the headboard is using the gorgeous Blue Hydrangea wallpaper from Milton & King.
The sample came in and I LOVE IT SO MUCH. Here's a refresher of how gorgeous it is… (photo from Mimosa Lane).
Since blue and white are the predominant colors of the accent wall, we've decided to go incredibly bold with a tall tufted velvet blue headboard. This is really, really colorful. Like Austin Powers velvet suit kinda colorful.
I love the silhouette and height of the headboard, and we'll gain about a foot of space by moving the current bed out of there and opting for a headboard that sits more flush against the wall and has no footboard.
Personally, I believe a guest room design is where you should have fun with color and go bold. I like to think of it as providing my guests a boutique hotel experience. The bold color choices continue with a custom lumbar pillow from Loom Decor– on one side it'll have a bold malachite fabric and on the other side a girly floral.
I love their custom lumbar pillow options because depending on my mood or decor I can easily flip the cushion and have a whole new look.
Guest Room Lighting
I feel like I've gotten a bit of a late start to the New Year, New Room Refresh Challenge (shout out to Stephanie at Casa Watkins Living for hosting!), so I'm going to hustle this week and do the following:
- Get the artwork chosen for the frames
- Order the desk
- Order the headboard
- Prep the wall for wallpaper
- Find curtains and comforter/duvet/bedding
And major props to our amazing sponsors! They're helping make these rooms possible.
